Community members, friends and family laid to rest fallen Maple Ridge firefighter Dennis TeBoekhorst on Wednesday. He died on Oct. 21 after suffering a heart attack.
A dedicated leader in the community, the 42-year-old father of two was also a champion of transplant research and organ donation. Six years ago, he gave a kidney to save his young daughter.
Today, his selfless nature carries on. TeBoekhorst’s liver, lungs, corneas, remaining kidney and other tissues have all been donated to waiting recipients.
But his family is now asking for support to set up a scholarship fund for his two children. Almost $17,000 has already been donated to the cause through an online fundraiser.
Their goal is $30,000.
