‘Threatening text message’ prompts hold and secure at Sherwood Park school

RCMP are investigating after a student received a threatening text message concerning the safety of Bev Facey High School in Sherwood Park Wednesday morning.

Mounties were called at around 10:30 a.m. to a report of uttering threats.

Strathcona County RCMP said a student received “a threatening text message concerning the safety of the school and advised a staff member immediately.”

The school was placed in hold-and-secure mode. “Hold and secure” protocol means classes continue normally inside the school, but the school building is locked and contained.

When officers arrived, they quickly identified the person responsible for sending the threat, RCMP said.

A student at the school was arrested and the hold and secure was lifted.
