Six Winnipeg Blue Bombers named division all-stars

WINNIPEG — Six members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been named CFL West Division All-Stars after helping their team clinch its first playoff berth since 2011.

Running back Andrew Harris, offensive lineman Travis Bond, linebacker Maurice Leggett, defensive backs Taylor Loffler and T.J. Heath along with kicker Justin Medlock were all honoured.

Harris ran for 974 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games this season. The Winnipegger also caught 67 passes for 631 yards and a touchdown. Harris was named a division all-star twice before in his seven-year CFL career.

Bond was chosen as the Bombers’ Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman this season. He made his league debut in Winnipeg’s 30-23 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 6.

Loffler also picks up a division all-star award in his first season. The 19th overall pick in the 2016 CFL Draft was named Winnipeg’s top rookie after racking four interceptions, four forced fumbles, a sack and 58 defensive tackles this season.

Leggett finished the season tied for the league lead with seven interceptions, three of which were returned for a touchdown. The Bombers’ Most Outstanding Defensive Player also had a sack, a forced fumble and 51 defensive tackles.

Heath also grabbed a CFL-high seven interceptions on top of 51 defensive tackles and five special teams tackles. The American was acquired by the Bombers in September in the Drew Willy trade.

Medlock was named a division all-star for the third time in his career following a record breaking season. He hit 60 of his 68 field goal attempts to snap a 26-year-old mark. Medlock also set a franchise record for points in a season with 227.
