As a Donald Trump presidency appeared well within the realm of possibility Tuesday night, social media users were quick to paint a bleak image of the “new” America the world might face if Trump should win the U.S. election.

Trump outperformed electoral predictions and market forecasts that saw a historic victory for Hillary Clinton, winning key battleground states Florida and Ohio, and mounting surprisingly strong challenges in places like Michigan, which hasn’t gone Republican in decades.
Although a Trump presidency has yet to be made official, his strong performance has left many feeling uneasy about the future of their country.
As results continued to pour in, many expressed feelings of sadness and shock at very idea of how the U.S. could change over the next four years.
Financial markets were turbulent as the preliminary election results came in, with S&P futures rising as much as 0.8 per cent and falling more than three per cent at one point. The Mexican peso also slumped versus the U.S. dollar to near historic lows hit in September. It was last down more than seven per cent, near 19.7 to the dollar, after earlier touching 18.1475, its strongest level since Aug. 6.
