Man dead after vehicle rolls attempting to flee Sask. RCMP check stop

Saskatchewan RCMP has requested an independent investigator look into a fatal rollover that took place this past weekend.

At around 9 p.m. CT on Nov. 5, officers were conducting a check stop within the Onion Lake RCMP detachment area when the driver of a stopped vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

RCMP officials said a chase ensued but was called off to ensure public safety.

Shortly after, the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled.

The lone occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age have not been released at this time.

The Regina Police Service will conduct the independent investigation of the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Onion Lake is approximately 280 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
