WINNIPEG — Astronaut Chris Hadfield and singer Paula Abdul are some of the celebrities headlining We Day Manitoba this month.
The event, organized by Free the Children, combines a live music concert with motivational speeches and addresses. The idea is to inspire young people to make a change in the world.
The event kicks off Nov. 18 at the MTS Centre.
Other celebrities taking stage this year include Margaret Trudeau and Canadian Paralympian, Rick Hansen.
“I’m deeply inspired by the thousands of young people at We Day,” Hadfield said in a media release.
“They not only fill stadiums, but have a collective passion for making our world a better place. No good action is too big or too small; students from across Manitoba have shown everyone that real change is possible – and if you work hard, you can achieve remarkable outcomes for us all.”
More than 16,000 students are expected to pack the MTS Centre for the event.

Last year, students across Manitoba volunteered nearly 250,000 hours and raised nearly $650,00 in support of local and global charities, including Fort McMurray wildfire relief.
