Every year, the Smitheman brothers deck out their yard like you wouldn’t believe. It’s enough to give anyone a scare but it’s also for a good cause.
Anyone can visit for free but donations for the Starlight Children’s Foundation are welcome.
It takes the Smithemans weeks and plenty of cash to put their yard together but for 12 years they haven’t wavered.
“It started with a pumpkin,” Brad Smitheman said.
“Next thing you know, it’s what we got going here – it’s crazy.”
Over the years, they’ve collected thousands of dollars to help sick kids get their treats.
Their yard has evolved into a massive spook fest.

On the mild level of freight, you find singing pumpkins, flying witches and holograms.
On the scariest end of the spectrum, there are radioactive spiders popping out of nowhere, creepy clowns spewing their Machiavellian laughter and electric chairs inviting those who are brave enough to sit and feel the shock.
Their loyal visitors come from all over the West Island. Some, like Karen Baron, have been coming for the 12 years it’s been going on.
“It’s a tradition,” Baron said.
Baron has been bringing her now teenage daughters to the haunted home since they were little kids.
“It’s such a good cause.”
The haunted house runs every day from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. until Monday, Oct. 31.
It is located at 116 Maywood in Pointe-Claire.
