Terwillegar Rec Centre pool to reopen next week after maintenance closure

The aquatic centre in southwest Edmonton’s Terwillegar Rec Centre will reopen next week after being closed two months for regular maintenance.

The pool closed on Sept. 6 and will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 1.

In addition to regular maintenance and cleaning, several safety improvements were installed in the aquatic centre during the closure.

All in-pool lights were replaced with high efficiency LEDs to increase underwater visibility for swimmers and lifeguards.

Imperial depth markings were added to the pool side to show water depth in both metric and imperial. As well, some decorative features were removed to enhance access to pools.

All other areas of the rec centre remained open and operated normally during the closure.

All rec centres have regular maintenance done which requires a shutdown every two to three years, the city said in a news release.
