According to Mounties, just after 1 p.m., police were notified a man on a motorcycle heading north was trying to jump the border between the Aldergrove crossing and Bradner Road.

The suspect was able to escape capture and continue north into Canada on his motorcycle. The Border Patrol helicopter followed the suspect and fed the surveillance video to the RCMP’s Air One. After dumping his motorcycle, the suspect fled to Willowbrook Mall.

Police began searching the mall in Langley and the 49-year-old man, who is well-known to police, was eventually found east of the mall, near 64th Avenue, and taken into custody.

Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy said the motorcycle the suspect rode to Willowbrook Mall was stolen in Abbotsford and the plates were stolen from Surrey.

Largy could not say why the man had jumped the border but that police will be recommending charges.

Shortly before that attempt, and in a separate incident, another man tried to cross the border illegally at Bradner Road and 0 Avenue. He was arrested by the Border Patrol in Washington State and is currently being held in custody in the U.S.
