Residents living near the Vendôme Metro station are crying foul over the controversial NDG Provigo project.
Many of them complain elected officials aren’t providing enough information on the controversial development, planned to be built on the corner of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Street.

Jo-Anne Wemmers said her emails and requests to the Côte-des-Neiges-NDG borough have been largely ignored.
“We, of course, are still very much concerned, still very much opposed to this project, so we want to know what’s going on,” Wemmers said.

Residents living in the area voted to kill the project last winter, but a loophole in the municipal bylaw has allowed Provigo’s parent company, Loblaws, to resubmit the plan to Montreal’s city council.

The project is currently being studied and public consultations will likely occur next year.
“I’m prepared and indeed anxious to be as transparent about this project as possible and willing to meet with them anytime,” borough Mayor Russell Copeman said.

Opponents of the mixed commercial and residential project complained the proposal will have a negative impact on traffic, creating lots of congestion.
“Any benefit that we could have would be offset by the traffic. I mean, look, we’re in the middle of the day and we see the traffic,” Alex Barta said.
The project is slated to come up for a vote next year following public consultations.
