After less than a day on strike, Blue Bus drivers will be back on the road Tuesday morning after a tentative agreement was met with the District of West Vancouver late Monday night.

“First bus to last bus, all will be back to normal [Tuesday] morning,” said Geoff Devlin, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

“We are pleased that the people who rely on Blue Bus will no longer be affected by this strike, and that service will be returning to normal on Tuesday,” said Jeff McDonald, spokesperson for the District of West Vancouver, in a release.

McDonald stressed that the deal is tentative and must be ratified by the transit union in a vote, which will take place Thursday.

“I understand that there was a handshake, but the agreement still needs to be ratified,” he said.

Some of the issues on the table that led to the strike Monday included working conditions and benefits. Talks over the weekend that many hoped would curb the strike broke down Sunday night, leading to Monday’s service disruption.

In addition to serving West Vancouver, the Blue Bus service connects to downtown Vancouver and the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal. Roughly 18,000 people use the service every day.

Details of the deal have not yet been made public, but Devlin said “everyone’s good.”
