Three suspects are facing numerous charges after an arrest turned violent in Victoria Friday night, leaving five officers injured.
Victoria police officers responded to an assault report at the 400 block of Johnson Street a little before 6 p.m.
A man was placed in custody, but before he could be taken away, two other people involved in the incident allegedly became violent towards the lone arresting officer. Multiple back-up units provided assistance, during which time three other officers sustained injuries.
One of the attackers was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and then was returned to police headquarters, where he then allegedly proceeded to assault a jail staff member.
All of the police officers, and the jail staff member, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and have all been released.
Police are recommending one count of assaulting a police officer against a 28-year-old Victoria woman; one count of assaulting a police officer and one count of causing a disturbance against a 31-year-old Saanich man; and three counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of assault causing bodily harm of a police officer against a 25-year-old Esquimalt man.
The 28-year-old woman and the 31-year-old man have been released from custody. The 25-year-old man remains in custody, and is expected in court on Oct. 24.
