New renderings show Edmonton’s Stanley A. Milner Library after revitalization

Edmonton Public Library has released new renderings and floor plans of a revitalized Stanley A. Milner Library.

The library will close for renovations on Dec. 31 before the building goes under construction in January.

The Stanley A. Milner Library will undergo a complete renovation, which will include opening up a third floor, adding more natural light and creating an eye-catching exterior.

While Stanley A. Milner Library is being revitalized, Edmonton Public Library will move to a temporary location at Enterprise Square at 102 Street and Jasper Avenue, which will be 17,000 square feet of space.

The hope is to have the renovated library open in 2019 or 2020.

In 2014, city council approved $62.5 million for the revitalization of the downtown library, with $52.5 million coming from the City of Edmonton and $10 million coming from community support and fundraising.

The library first opened in 1967 and was renamed to Stanley A. Milner in 1996.

Edmonton Public Library said Milner Library receives over one million visits each year.
