Edmonton police are investigating a shooting in the northwest end of the city that left a man dead.
The shooting happened at around 7:30 a.m. Friday outside a duplex near 171 Avenue and 126 Street, in the new neighbourhood of Rapperswill.
Police responded to a weapons complaint in the area after residents heard shots being fired.
A neighbour told Global News the man was shot while in his truck. They also described seeing two women pull the man out of the vehicle.
Mike, who lives nearby, ran out when he and his girlfriend heard the shots ring out.
“We heard six loud pops,” he said. “My girlfriend ran outside and I followed. Sheila got around the corner and seen the victim’s wife on his lap and asked somebody to call 911. Sheila called 911.”
“The first thing I did was observe him,” Mike said. “He had a gunshot wound to the left side up by his temple. He had a gunshot wound to his neck and the exit out of his cheek. I noticed another gunshot wound to the left side of his rib cage. I think it might have been two gunshot wounds.”
Paramedics performed CPR, but the victim was declared dead on scene.
Edmonton police homicide detectives have since taken over the investigation.
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance finding a blue minivan that witnesses saw driving away from the crime scene. Edmonton Police Service spokesman Scott Pattison said they did not know the make or model of the van.
“If you see a blue minivan – and obviously that’s a very general description – we don’t have a description of the suspect and/or suspects at this time,” Pattison explained.
“But if anybody has any information out there — you know, they may know the perpetrator involved — certainly contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously, we could certainly use your assistance.”
