KELOWNA, B.C. – Citizenship is the focus of a new exhibit at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art in Kelowna.
Works from 125 diverse ability artists in B.C. and Alberta were submitted and 27 pieces were chosen for the juried show.
The art reflects what it means to be a citizen; respected, treated equal, and appreciated for our differences.

“For everybody, art is a means of expression and for these individuals to have a place where they can express themselves in a supportive environment that is ideally what we’re providing,” said Rena Warren, Cool Arts Society artistic and program director.
Artists like Melanie Marcotte said having her painting up and having an effect on people is an amazing feeling.

“I kind of love being the way I am right now; just having my art up, having lots of people coming and thanking me,” Marcotte said. “Thanks for the citizen project. It’s the best thing I ever did.”
The Citizenship exhibit is on display until October 22 at the Alternator’s gallery in the Kelowna Rotary Centre for the Arts.
