Several people treated for smoke inhalation after Ottawa apartment fire

Ottawa paramedics say “several people” have been treated for smoke inhalation following a fire in a community housing highrise apartment building.

Firefighters were called to the building at Wurtemburg Street and Rideau Street at about 2:20 a.m.

Flames were visible from the window of a sixth floor apartment.

Firefighters rescued some residents using an aerial ladder before the fire was brought under control.

Residents who were evacuated from the building were sheltered in city transit buses.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
