Ottawa paramedics say “several people” have been treated for smoke inhalation following a fire in a community housing highrise apartment building.

Firefighters were called to the building at Wurtemburg Street and Rideau Street at about 2:20 a.m.

Firefighters rescued some residents using an aerial ladder before the fire was brought under control.

Residents who were evacuated from the building were sheltered in city transit buses.
