The city of Beaconsfield has passed a resolution opposing Montreal’s pit bull ban.

Karen Messier, the councillor who sponsored it, said the province is considering its own version of the Montreal ban. She wanted to make sure provincial legislators knew Beaconsfield’s position.

As Montreal’s pit bull ban takes effect Monday, a number of pit bulls and their owners came to Beaconsfield’s dog park.

One Lachine resident, Jessica Moore, said she brought her two pit bulls, Bonnie and Tazzie, to the park in hopes a judge would overturn the ban by the time she returned home.

Beaconsfield isn’t the only area west of Montreal that could end up on the opposite side of this issue.

The town of Kirkland is also considering a similar resolution.
