Traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway was disrupted for hours Thursday morning near Revelstoke because of a project to prevent avalanches.
Camera images from DriveBC show long lines of stopped vehicles, stretching for kilometres in both directions, west of Revelstoke.
The planned closure was for rock-scaling as part of a project to install a remote-controlled avalanche control system at Three Valley Gap.
The area is prone to slides throughout the winter.
The highway was supposed to be closed from 8 a.m to 11 a.m.
However, it was closer to noon when traffic started flowing again.
Motorists are advised to expect delays because of heavy congestion.
