Customs broker Livingston International buys Norm G. Jensen, terms not available

TORONTO – Customs broker Livingston International said Friday it has acquired Norman G. Jensen Inc., including its Canadian brokerage company, Jensen Customs Brokers Canada.

Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Livingston said the deal strengthens its position along the Canada-U.S. border, while several of NGJ’s owners and senior management are expected to remain with the business.

NGJ, based in Minneapolis, employs approximately 350 staff at more than 30 locations in the U.S. and Canada and specializes in high-volume commodity shippers.

“NGJ brings us further expertise in lumber and forestry products, oil and gas, and the agribusiness sector,” Livingston chief executive Peter Luit said.

Toronto-based Livingston has 2,900 staff at more than 100 key border points, ports, airports and other locations across Canada, the United States and in Mexico as well as around the world.

In May, the company signed a deal for M.G. Maher & Co. Inc. as well as the business of its affiliate MCLX Inc. in a bid to expand its U.S. business.
