After decades of being a landmark on the Kelowna waterfront, the Fintry Queen is scheduled to move Thursday morning.
The historic ship was once one of Kelowna’s most popular and famous tourist attractions. But now it is in bankruptcy and hasn’t sailed in several years.
The city is owed tens of thousands of dollars in moorage fees and it wants the paddle wheeler moved to make way for a marina development.
The Fintry Queen will be towed by a pair of tugs to Sutherland Bay where it will be moored until its long-term future is decided.
The ship is subject to a court-ordered sale.
Although the ship can probably be purchased for a bargain price, it doesn’t have a permanent home.
If long-term moorage can’t be found, the Fintry Queen will likely end up in the scrap yard.
