P.E.I. schools reopen after bomb threat prompts provincewide evacuation

Schools across P.E.I. reopened Thursday after all were evacuated Wednesday over a bomb threat police determined was not credible.

P.E.I. Premier Wade MacLauchlan says his government will take away some lessons from the evacuation of colleges and more than 60 schools.

MacLauchlan, who is also minister of justice and public safety, says the response was “effective and co-ordinated.”

But he says the province will look at what can be learned from the threat, which caused traffic slowdowns and the emptying of many offices as parents hurried to pick up children.

RCMP say a fax was sent to Ottawa RCMP early Wednesday from someone threatening to detonate bombs at several schools.

He says schools were notified within 10 minutes and no threat was found after about 19,000 children were sent home.
