Operators of a free public art installation featured at Beakerhead this year are hoping the public can help them track down a laptop stolen on Saturday.
The company that operates the BASS Ship, a 30-foot “space ship” set up in the East Village, took to Facebook to plead for help.
“Some truly awful people broke into our site last night and stole equipment from the BASS Ship,” Beama Visual Environments said.
“Please keep your eyes and ears peeled for any info or suspicious behaviors.”
Spokesperson Alex Bridge told Global News the computer was a black, 14” Alienware laptop.
“These laptops are very expensive and not particularity common around here.”
“It breaks my heart that this could happen at an event like Beakerhead, where we’ve all been working so hard to bring joy and inspiration to the people.”
The BASS Ship – which stands for Beama Applied Sciences Sector Ship – is the first project to emerge from Beakerhead’s Big Bang Residency Program.
The equipment is needed back as the display is scheduled to tour other parts of North America.
Beakerhead is an annual festival held in Calgary, described by organizers as a mix of art, science and engineering.
