There was a major effort to rescue a mountain biker who ran into trouble on Burnaby Mountain Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters and paramedics were called after the biker missed a bridge and went down a 20-foot embankment on Mel’s Trail, on the east side of Simon Fraser University.

Burnaby firefighters hiked for 15 minutes to the injured biker, stabilized him on a specialized stretcher and took him back up to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to hospital.
He sustained injuries to his left foot and hip.
