Volunteer Lethbridge and the University of Lethbridge combined forces for the second annual U-Volunteer Fair Wednesday. The event was held in the First Choice Savings Centre.
Organizers said the goal is to connect students to the community by encouraging them to volunteer their time and efforts. The fair provides a unique opportunity for non- profit organizations to interact with the student population and promote their groups.
“It benefits everyone involved in the relationship. On the student side, many students come to the university and they get the academics, but they lack the professional experience involved,” Sean Annis, an organizer of the event, said.
“Volunteerism is a great way to step up into the professional experience. Many organizations in the community have gaps where they could use some skilled students.”
Annis said many of the individuals that run non-profit organizations are very well connected to the community.
“You find students will work closely with executive directors. It’s almost limitless to what you can do if you volunteer at a non-profit,” he said.
There were over 25 vendors in attendance.
