A Calgary-area woman is celebrating an incredible find after a search she never dreamed would be successful.

Debbie Nason is back behind the wheel of a car she drove as a teenager–a Meteor Montcalm convertible her dad bought brand new in 1966.

“Since my dad passed away in 2008, I wanted to honour him by finding one of the cars that he drove,” Nason said.

But coming across any Montcalm was a huge challenge.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“There were only 518 made (in Canada),” Nason explained. “What are the odds of me finding my dad’s car? I do not know how many are even in one piece still.”

But then Nason came across Lawrence Jensen’s ad on Kijiji, and knew her dream had come true. The Calgary man had bought Nason’s father’s car in 1996.

She pointed to the original owner’s manual – “and at the bottom is my dad’s signature (dated) February 17, 1966.”

“Both my wife and I are absolutely delighted that Debbie is owning this car,” Jensen said.

“When I found this car, I had to think it was a birthday present from my dad,” Nason said.

“I turn 60 on Saturday and I’m giving it to myself as my birthday present. I truly believe he guided me to this car.”

And when she starts it up with the original key, there’s now a photo of her father on the key chain.

“That’s my dad,” Nason said. “Always riding with me.”
