KELOWNA – The head of the Kelowna RCMP detachment is off the job for what could be a lengthy absence but the Mounties aren’t saying why.
Superintendent Nick Romanchuk hasn’t been at work since earlier this month.
“My understanding is he’s been away from the office as of Tuesday, September 6th and will be off for an undetermined amount of time,” said RCMP media spokesperson Rob Vermeulen in an email response to a query from Global Okanagan News.
Vermuelen did not respond to a further inquiry as to why Romanchuk isn’t at work.
In the meantime, Inspector Brent Mundle is the Acting Officer in Charge of the Kelowna detachment.
Romanchuk became the city’s top cop in 2013 after being promoted and transferring from the Kootenays where he was in charge of the regional detachment.
