Liberty Village fatal shooting victim not believed to be target: police

The 26-year-old Toronto man who died after being shot in the head near a restaurant in Liberty Village early Sunday morning is not believed to be the intended target, according to police.

Toronto police and paramedics were called to the Mowat Avenue and Liberty Street area, southeast of Dufferin Street and King Street West, just after 4 a.m. where they found Kiesingar Gunn suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but Gunn died just before midnight Sunday.

“My body is in shock …. I have lost my bestfriend (sic),” wife Naomi Gunn posted on Facebook Monday, saying he was “amazing father of three of my kids.”

“I will be strong for our babies because I know that’s what you would want me to do.”

A GoFundMe page entitled “Support for family of Kiesingar” was created Monday to assist Gunn’s family.

Meanwhile, the homicide unit has been called in to take over the investigation.

Officers haven’t released suspect descriptions.

Police are asking anyone who may have been at the scene or who has cellphone or surveillance video to contact investigators at 416-808-7400.

Anyone with information is also being asked to call police or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
