Evacuation lifted at Lakeshore Collegiate in Etobicoke after threat made to school

Police evacuated Lakeshore Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke Friday morning, after the high school received an unspecified threat.

Const. Victor Kwong said the evacuation order had been lifted around 1:30 p.m. ET after a police K9 unit search, and no threat to students was found.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) said students were temporarily relocated to the Toronto Police College nearby as a precaution.

“Any time we receive any kind of threat against a school we act immediately because the safety and security of our students is our number one priority,” TDSB spokesperson Shari Schwartz-Maltz told reporters on Friday.

“The police were immediately notified and on their advice and opinion we evacuated the school.”

Dozens of backpacks were seen littered on the ground near the entrance of the high school following the evacuation order.

School officials said students were safe and no injuries were reported.
