RCMP said Highway 21 north of Highway 625 was reopened to traffic late Tuesday night after officers were called to investigate a serious head-on crash in Leduc County.
According to police, officers were called to the scene of a collision involving a car and an SUV just before 5 p.m.
The female driver of the SUV was airlifted to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance while the male driver of the car was rushed to hospital by ground ambulance.
Mounties did not provide details on the severity of the drivers’ injuries.
Highway 21 had been shut down for about five hours while police investigated.
RCMP said they are still working to determine what caused the crash but added alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
