‘Won’t go home until we find her’: A Manitoba family’s plea to help find their missing daughter

WINNIPEG — Over two weeks ago, Christine Wood went missing, and her family said they will not leave until they find their daughter.

21-year-old Wood was in town from Oxford House First Nation for a family members medical appointment. She went out on the night of August 19th, but never came back.

“I know it can be difficult when you hear of a 21-year-old missing. She’s an adult and there could be lots of circumstances here. But, when you sit with the parents and talk to them you learn this isn’t normal behaviour,” said Christy Dzikowicz, Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Director of Missing Children Services.

Wood was last seen in the Polo Park area and is described as:

  • 5’6″
  • Average build
  • Shoulder length dark brown hair
  • May be carrying a white purse

Dzikowicz said with Wood being 21, the risk is actually escalated, not less and the concern is very high for her well-being.

“They’re here and there’s no way they can go home without having answers,” said Dzikowicz about Wood’s parents.

Dzikowicz said if Wood isn’t found over the labour day long weekend then her family will likely hold a press conference to get their message out to the public Tuesday.
