Former Manitoba Bisons defensive lineman David Onyemata made the New Orleans Saints initial roster out of training camp.
Onyemata, 23, survived the New Orleans Saints final cuts on Saturday and was chosen for the Saints 53-man roster. He is currently listed third on the team’s depth chart at the right defensive tackle position. Onyemata recorded one defensive tackle in three exhibition games. He also had a sack in their final pre-season game against the Baltimore Ravens, but it was nullified by a penalty flag.

The Saints selected Onyemata in the fourth round, 120th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the first Bisons player to ever be taken in the NFL draft and just the 12th Canadian university player to get selected.
The six-foot-four, 300-pound Onyemata first drew scouts attention at the East-West Shrine Game in January after winning the J.P. Metras trophy as the top down lineman in CIS football.

Meanwhile the Winnipeg born John Urschel made the Baltimore Ravens’ initial roster, while former Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver Chris Matthews was placed on injured reserve by the Ravens. Former Bombers punter Jon Ryan remains with the Seattle Seahawks.
Former Bombers Cameron Marshall, Troy Stoudermire and Henoc Muamba were all let go by NFL teams last week.
