Two Okanagan men are recovering from serious stab wounds after what one of them describes as a random attack over the weekend.

One of the men told Global News he and his brother were on their way to Checkers Bar and Grill to play some pool and celebrate his brother’s birthday on Sunday evening when they were stabbed.

The victim told Global News that the incident started when he was walking with his brother in downtown Vernon and he bumped into a woman.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He said that the woman was with a man carrying a knife and the next thing he knew, he was being stabbed.

The back of his neck was sliced open and he said his brother was also stabbed while trying to protect him.

RCMP said the incident happened Sunday evening near the intersection of 31st Street and 37th Avenue.

The victim didn’t recognize the man with the knife, but he also added he was losing so much blood and was more focused on his injury than trying to identify the stabber.

Both men have now been released from hospital.
