Halifax Regional Police say the family of a toddler who was allegedly sexually assaulted in the city’s north end last week don’t want to proceed with the investigation, therefore police have concluded the potential court process involved.
“I can’t speak to their decision but we respect their decision and they always have the option to come back and have the file reopened if they wish to at a later day,” said Const. Dianne Woodward.

The toddler had been outside playing with a group of children on Wood Avenue when a stranger allegedly led her behind a building. The toddler told her parents the man touched the her in a sexual manner then left the area.
The suspect was wearing a helmet and riding a bicycle at the time.
Even though the file is now closed, police say they are still interested in speaking with the suspect for their own information.
Woodworth said late Tuesday that “police have an obligation to investigate crime given there is a broader public safety risk.” Therefore, HRP will be continuing their investigation and hope to find the suspect.
