Rainfall warnings in place for areas of central Alberta

Environment Canada issued rainfall warnings for several regions of central Alberta Monday.

As of 1 p.m., the warnings were in effect for areas west and south of Edmonton, not including the city.

Environment Canada said a low pressure system over southern Alberta has spread heavy rain over the west central regions of the province. Heavy rain is expected throughout the day Monday and will taper off on Tuesday.

Most areas will see upwards of 50 to 75 mm of rain by Tuesday morning, according to Environment Canada.

Strong winds are also expected in some regions, with wind gusts capable of reaching 80 km/h.
