A Calgary man accused of trying to smuggle fentanyl into Canada will stand trial at the end of April.
Kasimir Tyabji, the son of former BC MLA Judy Tyabji, was originally supposed to stand trial in September 2017.
Tyabji is charged with one count of importing a controlled substance after powdered fentanyl was found inside a parcel en route from China to Calgary in July.
The package, declared as a muffler, was intercepted by Vancouver police.
An investigation led Calgary police to issue a search warrant on a home in the 2400 block of 14 Street S.W., where 122 grams of pure fentanyl powder was seized.
It had an estimated value of $348,000.
The trial is scheduled for five days in front of a judge alone beginning Sept. 11, 2017.
Tyabji, 28, was granted bail last December and ordered to be under house arrest in B.C. He is only allowed to come to Calgary for court appearances.
Tyabji’s trial is scheduled for five days starting on April 30.
