Agrium’s Vanscoy potash mine resumes operations following worker’s death

Agrium’s Vanscoy potash mine in Saskatchewan is resuming operations after an underground miner died from injuries sustained in a workplace accident.

Chad Wiklun, 29, passed away on Aug. 10, two days after being seriously injured when he was caught between two pieces of equipment.

His funeral was held Tuesday and the company allowed workers the day off to attend.

Officials said the mine is still in the process of re-starting operations and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the week.

United Steelworkers said the company took an appropriate amount of time in re-opening.
