Winnipegger Nicole Sifuentes will run in the women’s 1500m semifinal race for the second straight Summer Olympics.
The 30-year-old advanced out of the preliminaries on Friday at the 2016 Rio Olympics with a time of 4:07.43. She finished 7th in her heat and 12th overall. The top six racers in each of the three heats along with the next six fastest qualified for the semifinals.
Sifuentes reached the 1500m semifinals while making her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Games but failed to advance to the medal race.
She won silver in the same event at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday.
