West End residents find body in dumpster

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police are trying to figure out how a dead body ended up in a West End dumpster at McGee Street and  Ellice Avenue Wednesday night.

Witnesses who say they discovered the body tell Global News they noticed a terrible smell and flies coming from a garbage bin.

Police are sharing very few details at this point, only referring to the death as suspicious.

“I took a look and saw a leg at first, and i thought oh my god, something must be going terribly wrong,” said one witness who didn’t want to give his name.

Witnesses say they made the discovery around 8 p.m. Wednesday, only hours after the garbage had been picked up.

Another tells Global News “we called 911 and the cops came and surrounded the whole back yard and got the forensics here and we went to the headquarters.”
