Highway 40 reopened after fatal accident

Highway 40 reopened at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, two days after a deadly accident left one man dead.

Gilbert Prince, a truck driver, died after his tanker truck was engulfed in flames during a multi-vehicle accident around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The heat from the fire was so hot that it melted the asphalt of the westbound lanes of the Metropolitan.

Officials said crews worked through the night to repave the lanes after clean-up was completed Wednesday.

Transports Quebec said an inspection showed the structure and concrete were not damaged in the intense fire.

Guard rails will be replaced as quickly as possible.

The eastbound lanes were reopened Wednesday following a structural inspection by engineers, the Sûreté du Québec and the Montreal fire department.
