A zookeeper who was mauled by a lion at Granby Zoo Monday is in good condition, according to the zoo’s executive director.
The keeper underwent surgery overnight and has suffered severe lacerations.
According to the zoo, the animal did not reach any vital organs.
“She’s doing great,” said Paul Gosselin, Granby Zoo Executive Director.
“There were no impact on the respiratory systems, there were only minor impact in the backbone of the head.”

The attack took place when the keeper was preparing the lion’s morning meal.
The zoo believes the attack happened because the keeper did not properly shut a door and the lion, a 14-year-old female named Koa, lunged at the keeper to try and protect her territory.
The zoo said Koa will not be put down.
Zoo officials said the lion was examined Monday and did not show any signs of aggression.
