An employee at Granby Zoo was found injured inside the lion enclosure Monday around 8:45 a.m.

“We received a phone call that the employee had been injured by an animal,” said Guy Rousseau, a spokesperson with Granby police.
According to police, the employee, who is in her 20s and has worked at the zoo since 2011, suffered serious injuries.

Paul Gosselin told a news conference the lion was alone with the woman when the attack occurred.
She suffered cuts and a cervical fracture and was transported to Granby Hospital, where officials no longer fear for her life.

The lion backed off when another employee came to the victim’s rescue by spraying the animal with a high pressure water hose and CO2 gas.
