A B.C. Transit bus was involved in an accident Friday afternoon that resulted in one death and two injuries.
The incident took place Friday just before 5 p.m. at Labieux and Bowen Roads.
Constable Gary O’Brien says a pickup truck came out of a parking lot and cut in front of the bus, causing the driver to brake.
A 56-year-old passenger that was seated fell forward, hit his head, and lost consciousness. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Nanaimo RCMP has taken over the investigation.
O’Brien says there will be a mechanical investigation on the bus, but that speed was not a factor in the incident.
He says they are also hoping to locate the driver of the pickup, who may not be aware of what transpired.
The truck is described as an older model Dodge pickup that was towing a trailer.
“Our thoughts are with all involved in the accident; the family of the deceased, the passengers on board, and our transit operator,” said BC Transit in a statement.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP.
