Saskatoon police officers had to Taser a man Wednesday evening who was allegedly threatening a woman with a knife.
Officers were initially called to the 100-block of Avenue P South on Wednesday at 6:21 p.m. CT.

Police said they arrived to find a man had barricaded himself inside the residence and was holding a woman against her will.

SPS said the responding officers broke into the residence because they had “an immediate concern” for the woman’s safety.
The man retreated to a bathroom with the woman, where he barricaded the door, according to police.
Officers broke into the bathroom, where they said the man was threatening the woman with a knife.
A Taser was deployed at that point and the man was taken into custody.

The 51-year-old man, who is known to the woman, is charged with assault with a weapon, carrying a weapon dangerous to the public, unlawful confinement and breach of probation.
The use of the Taser will be reviewed in accordance with Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) policy.
