Man brought to shore by pontoon boat after jumping off Saskatoon bridge

Saskatoon police say a family was cruising the South Saskatchewan River on their pontoon boat when they witnessed a man jumping off the University Bridge just before 4 p.m. CT on Saturday.

The family quickly called 911 and then proceeded to assist the 21-year-old man in the water. He was pulled from the river onto the watercraft and then brought to shore.

The man suffered very minor physical injuries but was taken to Royal University Hospital by MD Ambulance for further assessment.

Police said the man jumped attempting to harm himself.

Emergency services are thanking the Good Samaritans for their heroic actions in helping rescue the man.
