The heat is here, but will it last until the weekend?
Severe Thunderstorm Watch
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Saskatoon, Rosetown, Kindersley, Outlook Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and Pelican Narrows areas.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms with a risk of localized flash flooding Tuesday afternoon and evening.
In addition, these thunderstorms may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain.
There is also the risk for weak funnel clouds generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms in east-central Alberta.
Normally this weak rotation is not a danger to the ground, however there is a chance it could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.
Saskatoon Forecast
Today
A thunderstorm rolled through Saskatoon overnight around 3 a.m. before clouds cleared to give a mostly sunny start to the day with temperatures around 15 degrees.
By mid-to-late morning temperatures were already up into the mid-20s with humidex values making it feel like the low 30s by 11 a.m. in the sunshine.
There is a lot of potential instability in the atmosphere today, but warm air aloft in what’s known as a cap will likely keep any thunderstorms from developing through the afternoon.
That being said there is a small risk that one could break through the barrier that the cap produces late in the day to fire off a thunderstorm.
Otherwise conditions look to remain mostly to partly sunny through the rest of the day with temperatures possibly climbing as high as 30 degrees with humidex values making it feel like the mid-30s by later this afternoon.
Tonight
We could see a handful of clouds slide through overnight, but otherwise it looks like skies will remain mostly clear tonight as the mercury dips back into the mid-teens.
Wednesday
Tomorrow looks like it’ll start mostly sunny with a few more clouds bubbling up in the afternoon as we get some destabilization of the airmass in an upper feature swinging through.

Temperatures may be a degree or 2 cooler as well, with an expected daytime high in the high 20s with winds a bit breezy up to sustained speeds of 30 km/h with gusts upwards of 45 km/h possible at times.
Thursday-Friday
Mostly sunny skies look to stick around for Thursday with just the slightest chance of a late day shower or thunderstorm and a daytime high around 27 degrees.
Friday looks like it’ll start sunny with a trough moving through causing clouds to build up through the day with a chance of afternoon and early evening showers or thunderstorms and a daytime high once again around 27 degrees.
Weekend Outlook
The unsettled conditions look like they may continue into Saturday with an upper disturbance keeping conditions unstable with a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day and a daytime high around 27.
Another ridge looks like it’ll move back in on Sunday, bringing back the sunshine and temperatures pushing back into the high 20s or even low 30s as the heat continues right into early next week.
