Twenty-seven students from California State University will be finding clues while they learn from BCIT’s Forensic program – which is the largest in Canada.

“Our team thought it would be fun to do so we put together this custom course,”said Dean Hildebrand, with BCIT’s Forensic Science and Technology program.

“We’ve had a forensics program here for over 20 years but we’ve never done a field group for an international group.”

The field school is meant to help students have hands-on experience.

“They are learning how to search a scene, they’re going to collect the evidence and then they’re going to do forensic anthropology, forensic DNA, forensic fingerprinting, question documents, the whole list of different things,” said Hildebrand.

John Wang with California State University Long Beach said it’s important for students to get international experience.

“We come to Canada is because we want to study Canadian perspective on forensic science and crime scene processing,” said Wang.

He says agencies require international experience so the field school can help students find a job more easily.

“It makes your experience so much greater than what it usually would be and I don’t know, I really enjoy it,” said one of the students taking the course.
