L’ASSOMPTION – “It’s a new era, a historic day,” said Coalition Avenir Québec leader François Legault as he headed into Amédée-Marsan school in his riding of L’Assomption to vote today.

“It’s time we made a major change in Quebec.”

Dressed in a dark-grey suit, Legault cast his ballot, one of only a handful of voters who trickled in during the 15 minutes or so that he was there.

A smiling Legault worked the room, shaking hands with election-day workers and scrutineers.

Before poll stations opened at 9:30 a.m., Legault was already urging people to go and vote “for yours and your children’s future” through his Twitter account.

He kept up a running commentary on the day’s events, announcing where he would vote, thanking his “small” election team for working miracles and suggesting that election polls (most putting the CAQ in second or third place and the Parti Québécois with a minority or majority government) would be proved wrong Tuesday evening.
