Update: The Amber Alert for Taliyah Leigh Marsman has been cancelled after a body was located

The father of missing five-year-old Taliyah Leigh Marsman told Global News in a phone interview Thursday morning that he is working closely with the police and doesn’t recognize the car that was seen on security footage near where Sara Baillie’s vehicle was found.

Police confirmed Wednesday Baillie had been murdered. Her body was found Monday in the northwest Calgary basement suite she rented with her daughter Taliyah.

In the two-minute interview conducted after police announced they have a man in custody in connection with the case, Colin Marsman told Global News reporter Reid Fiest that he did not know anything more than anyone else in the case.

Marsman said that has been cooperating with police and that he speaks with them ‘every hour.’

FIEST: Do you know anything about who they’ve got in custody or that sort of thing?

MARSMAN: I’m finding out the same thing as everybody, at the same time as everybody else. I’ve stayed glued to the tv and I’m finding out the same thing as everybody else at the same time.

FIEST: Do you know that car…have you seen that car that police have shown?

MARSMAN: I have no idea…I don’t know whose that is or anything. I’m working closely with the police and I stay in contact with them every hour. We’re talking to each other. But as far as information, I find out at the same time as everybody else. But I’m cooperating with them. We’re staying close in contact. But as far as that situation I’m not sure.  I don’t know who may own that or whose it is. I wish I could be more help.

FIEST: Do you have any idea about who might have done this and why someone would have done this?

MARSMAN: No sir, I don’t. Not at all

FIEST: How are you doing?

MARSMAN: (pause) Trying to stay strong for my son…and for my daughter, when we get her back. And just trying to stay strong sir, you know?

FIEST: Do you have a message for your daughter if she could hear you? What would you want to tell Taliyah?

MARSMAN: Just to tell her that daddy loves her, and I’m here. I’m waiting for her to come back home and I’m praying. And I believe that I’m going to see her soon, and I just can’t wait to see my daughter. That’s all I have sir.  I’m praying every day…all my family and friends are praying and hoping for the best. I believe we are going to see her. And I just want everybody to keep praying for her, my daughter, to come home safe.
