‘Can’t’ doesn’t exist for incredible boy who suffers from spinal cord injury

MARKHAM – This is a story about an incredible boy named Tai Young. Tai was first introduced to our viewers back in 2009, when he was just five years old.

Since then, Tai has accomplished a lot in his life including being an ambassador for multiple agencies like Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and Easter Seals — speaking on behalf of children with disabilities.

“I have a spinal cord injury from birth,” says Tai. “The doctors do not know how this happened, it doesn’t really matter.”

And it doesn’t, because when we recently caught up with him at his home in Markham, Tai was busier than ever. Aside from being athletic, he’s started his own production company, and is often seen filming throughout his neighborhood with his friends.

“Tai has never let his disability slow him down,” says Tai’s mother, Lisa.

“I remember the day the neurologist gave us the news at SickKids, and she said to us that he would never be able to sit on his own, would not be able to stand and he would not be able to walk. I 100 per cent believe that if you have the right attitude and a good positive attitude, you can do anything you set your mind to.”

For Tai, the word “can’t” doesn’t exist.

“Whenever someone says you can’t do something, I always try my very best, and in the end, I can,” he says.

“I want everybody to learn that no matter what your ability is, or age or whatever your gender or anything like that, you can do anything you want to do. No matter what!”
